You are a Canadian citizen, but how long have you been out of the country? And where will you be attending university? Compared to Dubai, Canada is huge! It can be very different from Nova Scotia to Vancouver.
If you have been in the Middle East for many years, expect the following when you get back to Canada:
WEATHER:
You will probably find it much colder here. And I don't mean just temperature. Your body may have become accustomed to weather patterns in Dubai, and so the combination of heat/cold/humidity may make you FEEL much cooler than where you are now.
CULTURE SHOCK:
After an immersion in Dubai's language, lifestyle, and social standards, some people find it difficult to come to Canada. We have had cases of families who arrive here and the father or elder brother gets very upset that the mother or daughter become so liberal or exercise their freedoms.
I personally know a middle-eastern man who moved his whole family from Canada to Dubai when his daughter entered her teens because he was worried that she would get involved with a Canadian boy that was ';not of her heritage';.
SAFETY
Canada is considered one of the safest countries in the world, with major cities having very low homicide and violent crime rates. Most homicides in Canada are committed by people who know or are related to the victim. (Of course, you should still be alert and aware of your surroundings on a city street, especially after dark.) And crime in various towns can vary greatly based on what sector of the city you live in.
Other than that, I can't tell you much based on the limited info you gave. Perhaps add some more details and someone else can provide more input or sugestions.I'm going to Canada in a year, any advice or reviews?
Are you coming for a visit, as a tourist ?
Or are you intending to live and work here in Canada ?
If it is the latter, you must apply and be accepted. FIRST, by the Government of Canada
as a legal Immigrant.
EDIT....
It would have been helpfull if you had ';mentioned '; that you are a Canadian citizen, in the first place.......jeezzzz ,louise .....
Jim B. Toronto.I'm going to Canada in a year, any advice or reviews?
the government website has lots of info ... go to the area on ';about canada';. http://www.canada.ca
The government site for official info on student visas and such
http://www.cic.gc.ca
and depending on what province you plan to go to school in but each has their own website with lots of general and specific info. Just ';google'; the province you are thinking of going to school in.
Depends if you will be a tourist or immigrant.
No advice because I've never been to canada in my life.
