Hi, we are looking to go to Greece next spring/summer as we have been told its very nice - however we have NO idea which part to visit! Some have told us to visit Rhodes, others have reccomended Kos, it all looks lovely but as we have saved VERY hard for this holiday we want to make sure its worthwhile and we get the best out of what we pay for.
What would you guys recommend? Rhodes, Kos, or maybe Athens?? Does anyone have any links to websites, know of any fantastic hotels? Any tips for us while we are there?
Much appreciated!Holiday in Greece - advice and reviews please?
I have been to Kos,Rhodes,Corfu and a few others besides,Kos is nice as you have the Castle of the Knights of St John to Look round and another site over the road from there and some good beaches.Rhodes has the ruins at Lindos and the walled city of Rhodes old town and some great beaches.A couple of sites to look at are WWW.greeka.com there is some good information and photos on there rom other holiday makers and www.gnto.com,the Greek tourist office and you can order travel brochures and they send them free of charge.Holiday in Greece - advice and reviews please?
You should stay at Athens about 2 days, to see the monuments. You really can't come to Greece and miss the most wonderful monuments in history!
Kos and Rhodes also have heritage to visit, but also gerat sandy beaches. I do recommend them. What you need to be carfeul is teh place you'll be at. Avoid Faliraki in Rhodes and Kardamena in Kos, these are places for drunken partying tourists. Other places are lovely. Also, be careful with package tours, they may put you in a hotel that you don't like, also full of tourists doing silly ';animation'; stuff, like loud music around the pool while you want to rest (it's happened to me). Perhaps you should check out the hotels on teh internet by yourself. A package tour would be cheaper, of course.
I've been to Zante twice, and to Rhodes four times. I think its all about preference really. In my opinion, Rhodes is lovely: i think theres something to do whatever age you are. theres faliraki, theres rhodes town with gd shopping, and the further south you get the calmer it gets. I stayed in a little resort near Lindos, which is an old market town and that was nice. theres a waterpark as well, but i haven't been there yet.
It really depends on your age and what kind of holiday you want. Clubbing resorts are plenty as are family resorts and quieter ones. It best to do some research online with various travel companies. They're usually pretty honest because they won't get good reviews if holiday makers end up at the wrong kind of place.
So far I've been to Hydra, Kefalonia, Corfu and Santorini. I've enjoyed each holiday.
Depends on your age and interests. Try a site like travelbag; you will get reviews from people who have visited these places.
Whatever you decide, Greece is a wonderful country with magnificent scenery and friendly people. Mainland or one of the islands, I know you will have a great time.
why not Corfu island?

Well, what kind of holiday are you after? lol
I went to Halkidiki and thought it was more rural and authentic. The hotel was quint, the beach was gorgeous and quiet.
There was things to do, but you have to travel to get to them.
Beware where you step on Zante cause of land mines.
Crete - rivers of refugees are seeking shelters cause of civil war there.
iv been all over the greek islands, and my personal favorite is zante. its also one of the cheapest. i think it has the nicest beaches and has a really good greeky feel. my favorite town in zante was aleykes (thats probably spelt wrong) which is a really nice greek town, with the hills in the backround and the beach and a beautiful town.
kos and creet are also very nice, and are extremly historical, if your into anchent greek things. if you are i'd reckomend a trip to olymipia for the day, its on the main land but most islands offer ferry tripps, it is the site of the first olimpics, and you can run on the first track, which is very iteresting.
but greece is such a great plavce and there isnt really anywhere that you can go to wronge, exsept being to close to an airport, that can ruin a holiday.
but greece is my favorite destination, and please dont be stingy and get air conditoning, you WILL need it
